My family has a large home and that is why I told my mother to buy a large one and a couple of small ones. Really they are not too expensive. I'm not surprised at all that these are common in Asia and Europe, they don't have as much space available and need smaller tanks to have living space. We Americans are spoiled when it comes to space.

Tankless water heater is very common in Asia and Europe. Not new concept! It will save energy in small family household. Big family no benefit on energy saving.

Believe it or not, but they have really been around for a long time. One of my Architecture teachers told us that they had these in Europe 20 years ago when he was stationed over there. It took that long for the US to catch on.
