Asian Furniture in the Kitchen – Tips to Get That Timeless Appeal

Decorating a new home is an exciting and fulfilling venture. The look and feel of your new home is a reflection of your own personality, your family’s lifestyle, and your own design style. The interior of a home also would affect how you and your family feel. Your atmosphere, your well-being and your mental health are greatly affected by your home, which is considered by everyone to be a place of sanctuary, rest and comfort.

We all know that one of the most important rooms of a household is the kitchen. It is not just a room where we cook but a kitchen can be the hub of many household activities. Not only it is a place where all the members of the family gather to get nourishment, but a kitchen can be a place where a family can bond preparing meals or having a nice chat while doing chores.

It is not surprising then that a lot of thought should go into designing your kitchen. You need to be able to balance warmth with elegance, and style with purpose. A current design trend that’s becoming more common is the use of Asian themes to elegantly enhance your kitchen space.

The major eye-catchers in the kitchen are the kitchen cabinets. This is understandable, considering kitchens are the most gadget and equipment heavy room in the house. Storage is essential and being able to balance function with style has always been an interior decorating challenge. In the case of using Asian furniture in the kitchen, this problem is easily solved. The different styles of Asian-inspired furniture lend themselves well to being adapted to different purposes.

You can opt to have different kinds of kitchen cabinets to match your needs. You can have kitchen cabinets that are fixed to your wall, or freestanding kitchen cabinets that you can be moved around as the need arises. A free standing kitchen base cabinet is a great investment, and can double as a serving or buffet table in the case of a get-together of guests in your house. Because of their unconventional style, Asian-inspired kitchen cabinets are flexible, letting them easily work in different rooms in your home. Classic, yet different, and exotically elegant, Asian kitchen cabinets are a perfect addition to your home.

Linen Tablecloth Review

This product was provided by Linen Tablecloth. All thoughts and opinions are my own unless otherwise stated.

I was not sure what to think when I was asked to review this site and their products, but now that I’ve gotten them and used them I have to say I love what I’m seeing. As a hopeful newly graduated interior designer I look at quality, affordability and durability of a product. I received my chocolate linen tablecloth a little over a week ago. I immediately opened it up to see how it felt, how good the coloring was and if there were any defects. I didn’t find anything wrong with the product so I decided I would wash it and put it on my table to see how it held up. There was no fading shrinking or bleeding of the coloring and it looks amazing in the bedroom I put it in.

I love the rich color of the fabric along with the lightness of it. I have found that some linen products are very heavy and are actually difficult to carry around. I am actually thinking of using this table cloth in a side business I have where I need to display items. It would work perfectly and really does look professional and classy.

If your looking for a table cloth that will probably last a while and look amazing you should at least take a look at Linen Tablecloth. The site is very simple to use and easy on the eyes. It’s not a mis-match of things but has a great flow to it that takes you from one thing to another without making you think “why am I even here?” Another great reason to check linen table cloth out is that they have a large selection of wedding decor that is very inexpensive such as aisle runners and decorative cloth. Overall I had a great experience with them and would recommend them to anyone looking for these types of products. If you have used this company before please share your experience with us.

Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach Review and Giveaway

I received this product from Tropical Traditions to review. All opinions are 100% my own unless otherwise stated.

Bleach, we all use it and most of us hate it. It kills our clothing and is most of the time a huge mess, not to mention the chemicals in bleach are horrible for the environment. What if you had a bleach that wasn’t any of those things? Well I do and it’s Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach.

About Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach (From The Household Traditions Website)

People have been using chlorine bleach in their laundries since the end of the 18th century. While these products work very well in whitening clothes, chlorine bleaches do have a negative effect upon the environment because of their chemistry. Care must be taken in using chlorine bleach as it is toxic to humans, animals, and plants.* Also, we all have experienced destroying a colored article of clothing because chlorine bleach was accidentally spilled on it.

Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach is a safe and effective alternative to chlorine based products and it can be used in many applications in and around the home. It is based on sodium percarbonate which uses oxygen for destaining and deodorizing. Oxygen Bleach is safe to use at all temperatures, on most washable fabrics, and all colors, in hard or soft water, and is compatible with other household cleaners. Also, it produces no harmful by-products which negatively affect the environment. Unlike chlorine bleach, which can merely cover up a stain, Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach attacks and breaks down organic stains to totally remove them from the garment.

My Review

This stuff is wonderful. It’s a powder so it’s not messy, it also is very safe on colors. I just threw some in with a pile of clothing and it really helped to brighten them up. I have a very dull shirt that I always wear the other day someone asked me how I found another shirt just like the one I always wore, that was when I knew this stuff worked really well. At least for me. I was able to use it in all colors of my clothing and it really made everything look great.

Bring Some Shade To Your Home With Window Blinds

With summer comes warm weather, more outdoor activities and the dreaded utility bill from running that air conditioner. Well there is something you can invest in now to keep your home cool all summer long, custom window blinds, now I say custom because they will be made to fit your window. Many people have blinds on their home, but there are cracks between the blind and the edge of the window, or maybe the shade is too long or even too short for the window. This can cause warm air to come into your home and the cool to move out in the summer months.

Custom size shades work more like a glove over a window they are made by taking measurements of your window and custom designed to fit. This reduces the cracks between the shade and the window frame and helps to keep more cool air in your home. Of course this is also a must for winterizing your home, but if you do it now you don’t have to worry later.

If you don’t think you can afford custom blinds do a search for discount custom blinds as there are many great deals out there this time of year. The time it takes to hunt down these deals is well worth the time and energy.

Warm Your Nights With A Table Top Fire Pit

I love this time of year, the weather is getting warmer and people in the north area of the US (like me) are now able to get outside and enjoy nice weather. One way you can do this is to set up an outdoor entertainment area and have a bbq with your friends. Adding a great looking seating and cooking area not only makes great use of the outdoor space that you did also spend money to buy, but it can make you love your home even more.

One thing to me that always completes an outdoor space is a fire pit, but many places do not allow burning so your really very limited as to what you can do. That is where a really cool table top fire pit may come in handy. I just bought one and I think they really are a great investment. I got my locally, but you can find the one I have pictured on It’s $82.97 and really is a great investment if you spend a lot of time outside and can’t have a fire.

Why You Should Look At A Studio

Not everyone can live in a studio apartment, but if you do live in one there are so many cool things that you can do with it. A Studio Apartment is like a blank slate, you can really do whatever you want when it comes to interior design and decor. If you are interested in a studio apartment check out the Apartment Market Overview and see what you can find

I personally love decorating studio spaces, I have helped a few friends over the years and they really enjoyed the work and the end result. We used screens to create spaces along with arranging furniture in a way that would make guest flow to a certain area of the apartment. We also used plants in one apartment to create walled areas to divide the space. In all of my projects the use of plants was a huge part of the design and it really helped to improve the mood of the renter as well. Plants do tend to make us feel calm and happy.

Studio apartments don’t have to be dull places where everyone knows what color your sheets are and if you have a tweetie bird pillow on your bed, they can be great spaces that can really bring out the creative side of the renter and allow a huge amount of self expression.

Design For Groups

Even if you only have a three people in your home, you are sure to sometimes have a large group that will show up, it may be planned, but it may be unexpected. This is why it’s very important to plan your homes layout so that you can have a large group if needed. There are some very simple ways to do this:

  1. Buy a table that expands and make sure you have room for everyone to sit when it is expanded.
  2. Buy ottomans that can be used as both seating and storage
  3. Have a small collection of fold out chairs
  4. If you have an outdoor area add a table or chairs to help guide guest out when the weather permits it.
  5. Don’t fill your home with un-needed stuff, keep it organized and clean so guest don’t knock things over.

It’s very simple to keep a home that is ready for lots of guest. With summer fast approaching and many events being planned already having these things in place will help take some of the worry out of the big day.

Have You Bought A New Home Yet?

This year is the perfect time to buy a new home if you can. With the the $8000 tax credit, you can really get a great deal when buying first home. Not only will you have the proud ownership bragging rights, but you will get some cash back to spend on that new home. I currently know two people who have recently taking advantage of this, one is my sister the other a good friend. Both are very happy about their new homes, though my sister has yet to move into hers.

Not only will you get that wonderful tax credit, but you will be helping the economy, you buying a new home puts more money into the system, it also takes homes off the market, making things appear a lot better, and really they are if more homes are being bought.

I would love to myself, but I can’t afford to get a home yet. I need to pay off some of my student loans and find work first, but if you are in a position to get a home you really should take a good look at this tax credit as it does expire very soon and if you don’t you may just find yourself wondering down the road why you didn’t.

Spring into Your Home With Color

I love to decorate for the seasons. In the fall I use browns, reds and greens. In the spring I love to use light colors like yellow, green and purple. They help to keep your home bright and allow you to get out of those winter blahs. Here are some great examples of color combinations you can use in your home.

I love the Dark Citron color as it would really work for spring, summer and fall. It would be a great base for any room that you want to change around each season. I would not recommend using the Fuchia Red in any major part of the room, but as an accent it works. The other colors are just wonderful and I encourage you to pick one and try it on at least one wall. Try it and see if it helps to change the look and feel of your home.
