Organize your home with Yocopia

The holidays are done and now it’s time to look at ourselves and our homes. The top new years resolutions are to lose weight, get healthy and get organized. We are already a week into the new year and it’s time to start working on that organization resolution! I have some amazing products to help you do just that.

I received a few products from Yocpia to review for you all. I’m really very happy with what I have received. I have been able to organize my home with ease and really make myself feel like I have control over something this new year.

20161205_074714

The first item I was excited to try out was the spice steps. It’s a simple step up product that allows you to see more of your spices in your cupboard. I was excited because I am currently living with my brother and our spices were all over the place. This helped us because we could put the spices we use the most up front and the ones that we don’t use as much in the back, but we could still see them, making not only cooking easier, but grocery shopping as well.

20161205_074658

The next item I received was a lid holder for your pots and pans. I have needed this in my life for a long time and I may buy another one when I get my own place so that my brother can keep this one. It’s amazing and really helps keep my pots and pans organized. I’m someone who can’t seem to ever stack the pots and pans with lids on them, one I don’t have a cupboard that is big enough to do that and two I’m lazy when I get home and don’t want to take the time to do that. The lid holder makes it so easy to store your lids and really who uses the lid every time they cook anyway!

20161205_075522

The last item I received is really very cool it’s a Drawer StoraStack and it helps keep your food containers organized, now I will say there is a downside to this one as my drawers are not big enough to put it in, but I have it sitting in my cupboard and it works well. It’s great for those that have gone out and bought container sets that fit into each other, if you randomly buy them though, this may not work as well for you, though I will say it’s great to hold lids for all those random pieces.

I hope you take a look at what else Yocopia has to offer. They have such great products and great prices that I really don’t see why you wouldn’t look at them, All of the pieces I received were of amazing quality. They were not flimsy, but very sturdy and I have yet to feel like they would break if I dropped them or put something in wrong. I have had all of these products for a few weeks and really have enjoyed using them and seeing how much they have helped me organize.

Five Quick Tips For New Year Organization

Tips for new year organization

It’s the new year and now is the time to get into your home and organize it. You know it’s been crazy over the holidays and you were not worried about how things went as long as your home looked clean and ready for guest, now though as you enjoy the day after Christmas you may realize you need a bit of help in getting your home back to normal. Below I have a few tips to help quickly organize your home for the new year.

My Five Quick Tips for New Year Organization

1. Get your Holiday decorations in order

There are many ways to store your holiday décor, but many people don’t know how to do it. It’s actually very easy and can be cheap. My tip here is to hit up the dollar store for storage and bubble wrap. You can also order great storage for your decorations on Amazon.com

2. Do one room at a time.

You are not going to be able to organize your home over the weekend. It’s going to take time and there is going to be a bit of a mess for a while.

Plan:

  • Get a piece of paper and create 2 columns.
  • Write down each room in your home, put the smaller rooms in one column and the bigger rooms in the next.
  • In the smaller room column circle every 2-3 rooms, each circle represents one week of time spent on those rooms.
  • The bigger room column should be one room each week. If you have an overly large kitchen then add another week.

Yes this is going to take a month or two, but you will appreciate the outcome when you are done.

3. Get rid of non-used clothing

  • I’m sure you have heard this tip before, but it’s easier said then done. Here is how I do it every year.
  • Go though all of your clothing, throw out or donate anything you hate, anything that is too big (exceptions are big sweaters but only one or two!) or too small.
  • Once that is done, do the hanger trick, place all of your hangers the opposite way you normally do. Then as you wear the clothing put the hangers the other way. In 6 months see what clothing you have worn and what you have not. Donate what you have not. (again, exceptions are formal wear and other special occasion things)
    4. Have your kids help with their rooms
Many people think that mom or dad have to do all the organizing in the kids rooms, but if your children are old enough have them help. Let them pick out the storage and ask them questions about how they want their rooms to look. When a child has an input in what is going on they are more likely to take pride in their space and keep it looking good.
    5. Don’t Stress

Organizing takes time, but when you take the time to do it, the next time is so much easier. Lets start 2017 the right way and get things done. Don’t stress about the mess. Just go into another room, have a cup of tea or a glass of wine and think about how nice it will be when it’s all done. It will get done!

I hope these tips help you with organizing your New Year. Make sure to subscribe to my mailing list to get more tips on organizing your home this new year!

Welcoming Fall: Six Tips for Fall Organizing

Fall Organizing

Fall is finally on it’s way, The leaves are starting to change and soon the scenery around your home will be surrounded by beautiful reds and oranges. If you’re the type of person who loves to organize your bedroom every time a new season comes, welcoming fall is all about fall organizing and decorating your room for fall! By rearranging your room, cleaning out your closet, and bringing in some new tones, you don’t have to get bored with your room. Here are 6 fall organizing tips that will help you get rid of the summer feel in your room so you can welcome the back-to-school season in style:

#1: Get Your Space Ready for Back-to-School

If you’re a student or you have children, you’ll need to focus time on organizing for back-to-school. If you’re going to be studying in your own room, create a space where you can comfortably sit on your computer or do homework. Also, invest in a hook where you can hang backpacks and outfits you’ve picked out for the next day.

#2: Get Rid of the Summer Clutter

Summer is the perfect season for items to start cluttering up around your bedroom. If your sandals are scattered around your floor, your tank tops are spilling out of your drawers, and you’re cramped for space, it’s time to declutter so you can make room for all of the fall necessities. If it’s already starting to cool down and you won’t be wearing your shorts, tanks, sandals, and summer apparel, downsize. Keep the items you will want to wear next summer season, donate others, and put the keepers in storage. You can use plastic bins in the garage, put items in storage, or cleverly use foot stools and under-the-bed baskets.

#3: Create Space for Your Winter Jackets

If you love dressing warm, you’re more than excited that you can finally bulk up and wear that beautiful cardigan. Now that you’ve created space, it’s time to build your fall and winter wardrobe. You should have space in your closet with the room you’ve made by purging summer clothes. Create a section for your winter jackets, invest in pants hangers, and use dress space for your leggings and sweaters that can’t hang.

#4: Bring in the Fall Colors Creatively

You don’t have to take up a lot of floor space by bringing in a sofa or other piece of furniture that adds color to your room. If you want to bring in the fall colors, turn your fall-colored clutter into a special personalized type of decor. Your old fall issues of magazines, books, and trays can all work as decor if they’re stacked properly.

#5: Choose Smarter Season Appropriate Furniture

Fall is a cozy season where you might just want to lay back on a loveseat and read a book. You’ll be spending more time indoors, and you should have a comfortable room that caters to you. If you don’t have space for a chair, make space. Get rid of the end tables and use your dressers as tables so that you have room for a comfy chair.

welcoming fall

#6: It’s All in the Bedding

Tie together your new fall-tastic look with the perfect bedspread that is decorative and keeps you warm. Select the best print that blends with your decor, and also invest in pillows and other blankets that make the bed a focal point.

Don’t start the back-to-school season unorganized. By setting aside time before your busy schedule to get organized, you can welcome fall the right way. From your organizing your wardrobe, to welcoming new pieces, it’s all in the details.

5 Ways to Perk Up Your Home for The New Year

5 Ways to Perk Up Your Home for The New Year

The new year is here and now that we are into it a bit more you may find that your doing things just as you were last year. Nothing has changed and you are feeling less excited about the new year and thinking nothing will ever change. Well, you still have some time to make a few changes to your home that will help you feel refreshed and maybe help your metal state so you can ramp up those other new years resolutions!

1. Organize

This is probably the most important tip I have for you.. Not only does organizing help you to feel less frustrated as you can find things easier, but in general having an organized state in your home can keep you calm and focused.

If you don’t already have one buy a filing cabinet so that you can organize all of your important papers. This will also make tax time easier if you have a lot of tax paperwork. For the really important documents make sure you have a fireproof safe. This way if there is a problem and you have a fire your really important documents like birth certificates are safe.

If organizing your whole home seems like a daunting task, pick one or two rooms/closets to work on. Maybe your utility room is a mess or your kitchen has become overrun with bowls, cups and gadgets that need a place to go. Figure out the three most unorganized places in your home and get to those first.

2. Get Rid of It

While your organizing you want to also make sure to get rid of things you just don’t need, use or want anymore. Separate them into three different piles. Keep, Donate and Toss. Donating your items is a great way to get a good tax write off for next year. Do you know someone who could use something you have, give them a call before you donate it and see if they want it.

3. Paint

A great way to perk up your home for the new year is to paint it. Now maybe you don’t have time to paint the whole house, but pick one or two rooms that you use the most and paint them! Most people pick unused rooms to paint, because it’s easier, but it doesn’t help you to feel refreshed and new. You want to concentrate on the rooms you use, not the guest room you only use once a year.

You also don’t have to paint the whole room, if your paint still looks good then you may be able to just paint an accent wall or a border to change up the rooms look.

Add a wall tattoo for some added fun and color. They are easy to use and can change up the look of a room in just a few minutes!

4. Clean

This kind of goes along with organizing, but you also want to start thinking about how clean your home is. Clean the windows, dust and clean your TV and computer screens. If you spend a lot of time watching TV or on the computer you can actually cause stress to your eyes if your screens are not clean.

5. Host a home décor exchange party

This is one that many people I know have had success with. They get together every few months and have a party with home décor items they no longer want. (They also do this with kids toy’s)  Just get some friends together and find some items you no longer wish to decorate with! All you do then is swap it or as they do there is a raffle for the item. (They don’t charge for it) All you do is add your name to a cup that is in front of the item, the person drawn wins that item. You can only be drawn once per item you brought with you. So if you bring three items you can win 3 items.

Do You Need Some Winter Weather Cleaning Tips?

This post brought to you by North American Property Services. All opinions are 100% mine.

Winter is here, and it’s a great time to do some deep cleaning to help keep your home germ-free. North American Property Services, one of the top janitorial service companies in the United States, has ten key tips for cleaning your home this winter:

Winter

1. Be extra careful about hand washing with soap so you do not spread germs from room to room.

2. Routinely disinfect high touch areas such as door handles, TV remotes, and keyboards for all devices, such as tablets and laptops. Don’t forget all of your phones, including the landline and cell phones.

3. Dust carries germs and grime, so wiping down with disinfecting solutions will not only make your house cleaner, but it will remove germs that can cause the common cold and flues. Look for places that dust settles, such as fan blades, window ledges, and walls to wipe away germs. Don’t forget to clean your light bulbs, which has the added benefit of brightening the house on these short winter days. Another thing to clean is the dust balls under furniture and in the corners of floors.

4. Dust more often, as your heating system circulates dust, dirt and germs.

5. Keep mops handy to dry-mop floors regularly, especially around high-traffic areas of the house.

6. On warmer days, clean interior windows, another germ collector in your house.

7. Deep clean your carpets every year to eliminate grime and germs. A good time of year to do this is after the holidays so any spills from your holiday celebrations will be washed away.

8. Scrub the grout in your bathroom with a powerful disinfectant to remove germs that spread between family members.

9. Take your shoes off at the door. Think about all the places you walk and the germs that hitch hike into your home. Taking your shoes off will greatly reduce indoor pollutants.

10. The best winter floor care program is to continue to clean and maintain floor surfaces with extra mopping and scrubbing around the entryways.

Are You Ready for the Holidays

The holidays for me start now, I love Halloween and I start decorating and getting ready now. One big thing is keeping my home nice and clean and ready for anyone who may stop by. The holidays tend to bring unexpected visitors to your home as people start to visit friends and family more. Having a clean room to entertain in is something that is very important and one big problem in the winter is the build up of dust. It can be hard to keep it clean but I have found a combination of gadgets, dust spray and a dust collector can really save you time and energy.

I also worry about pet hair and dusting plus vacuuming is a huge help to keeping allergies that people may have . When you keep your home clean it makes people feel more welcome and your end up healthier for it. Of course a clean home also helps make it look amazing and highlights your great interior design skills. How do you keep your home clean and looking great for guest, do you have any good cleaning tips to share?

Keep Your Laundry Room Organized

Do you hate to do laundry? I know I did at one time in my life, but then we organized our laundry room and it was so much easier to do laundry. We first made sure that everything we needed to do laundry, besides the clothing of course was close to the washer dryer unit we had. We did this by making shelves that were easy to reach and full of all the supplies we would need.

The next thing we did was to bring in a little more light. We simply added a wall light and since we could see much better we liked the room more and the task of doing laundry didn’t seem so, well dark. You could also add a glass door to your laundry room if you need more light and are not wanting to pay for an electrician.

We also added in a nice scent warmer to make the room smell better. I know you use detergent, but that dryer smell can be a bit much sometimes. Have you reorganized your laundry room, how did you do it?
